Biography
Sondi (she/her) is an artist and researcher from Germany, born in Cameroon and based in the Netherlands. Her practice centers on worldbuilding and worlding, particularly within digital spaces and video games. She examines how power and narratives operate within virtual environments, tracing encoded biases, algorithmic discrimination, game mechanics, and the portrayal of people, places, and ecologies, while crafting worlds that foreground marginalised voices and perspectives often excluded from our techno-futures.
Sondi builds these worlds primarily through immersive 3D videos crafted within game engines, continuously moving through virtual and physical spaces to reflect on the interplay between our corporeal, spiritual, and digital selves. Her body of work spans a wide range of media, including interactive installations, game design, audiovisual performances, theatre, music, film, and education. Through speculative practices and critical play, she imagines virtual worlds as spaces for healing, resistance, and collective dreaming.
Sondi holds a BA from the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (2021) and an MA from the Sandberg Institute Amsterdam (2023). She currently teaches at the Design Academy Eindhoven.
Her work and collaborations have been exhibited at museums, galleries and media art festivals such as Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam (NL), Dutch Design Week (NL), Nieuw Instituut Rotterdam (NL), Kunshal KAdE Amersfoort (NL), Schauspielhaus Zurich (CH), ACUD Gallery Berlin (DE), and is part of the permanent collection of the Museum Arnhem (NL)
